A key innovation in  incremental design is the integration of quadrature encoding (via Channel A and Channel B, offset by 90 electrical degrees), which enables both direction detection and enhanced resolution through edge counting. For instance, a 1000 PPR encoder can achieve 4000 counts per revolution (CPR) when leveraging rising and falling edges of both channels-ideal for CNC machines, conveyor belts, and robotic arms that demand fine positional control. Many of s incremental encoders also include an index channel (Channel Z), which emits a single pulse per full rotation to serve as a reference "home" position.
