This drive is also called as a Variable Frequency AC drive (VFD), Variable Speed Drive (VSD), Inverter and Frequency Inverter by most personnel in the industry. Whatever the term used, it refers to an electronic device that is used to control the speed of an AC motor as well as torque control. Additionally, this drive is also used for motor protection and to lower energy consumption.
Speed control and Torque control can be implemented using the supported control method of this drive such as Vector Control w/FORCE Technology with or without an encoder, Sensorless Vector Control (SVC) Volts per Hertz (V/Hz), Surface Mount and Interior Permanent Magnet Motor Control. It can be used in applications that require Open Loop Speed Regulation, Closed Loop Speed Regulation, Precise Torque and Speed Regulation, Accurate Positioning with PCAM, Indexer and Gearing applications.

This drive also supports installation of a dual Ethernet I/P communication interface to enable support for Linear and Device Level ring (DLR) topology, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Remote I/O, BacNet I/P, RS-485 DFI, PROFIBUS DP, Modbus/TCP, HVAC (Modbus RTU, FLN P1, Metasys N2), ProfiNet IO, LonWorks and CANopen communication protocols.
Additionally, this drive supports Safe Torque Off SIL3, PLe, Cat 3, Safe Speed Monitor SIL3, PLe, Cat 4 with the use of option cards.
